All patched out A bit of an apology I'm going to start this issue off with a bit of an apology (we simply didn't foresee the demand) quite simply our first batch of Ai shooter patches went within 2 days. For that we are sorry, but the good news is that they are back in stock and ready to go. This month has been a busy one for us here at Ai. The Tour of Duty Games are in full swing and by the time you have received this issue, the long awaited Fire Support Tour of Duty would have come and gone (you can catch the report in the next issue). The series of games will culminate with an epic battle at Longmoor in late November. Then it's over the pond to the US to not only run the AI500, but to also get hitched up with a US version of Tour Duty. Now we know that Longmoor is potentially quite expensive so Ai have agreed to pay £20.00 of your playing fee, which means all you have to pay for a full on weekend battle is a mere £60.00 (Now that's got to be worth it). The Future's Bright ? the Future is Ai See you on the skirmish field Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

Its back to business as usual

WOW you guys certainly did like the build special, as with our wannabe special last year, the office is struggling to keep up with the demand. However there does seem to be some confusion over whose receiving this 13th issue FREE of charge. If you either subscribed or re subscribed from Vol 5 issue 1 you will receive this 13th issue completely FREE OF CHARGE. Don't worry if you didn't and your subscription is not yet up for renewal, as when you do re-subscribe you will also receive this issue FREE which means eventually each and every subscriber (who takes out a subscription from Vol 5 issue 1 to Vol 5 issue 12) will get this issue completely Free of Charge this year. Back to business as usual for us means supplying a high quality, globally respected monthly publication that tells it as it is. The great news for our US fans it that we have just almost doubled our availability in the US news trade, which means that Ai is now even more accessible than ever before, but we are not stopping there. At present we have just invested a huge amount into in-store promotions in the UK and Europe (again reconfirming our status as the biggest selling Airsoft publication in the World. It's also that Time of year again. The Ai Industry Awards are here (turn to page 75). Remember it's all up to you guys to vote for the best in Airsoft, you've only got yourself to blame if your favourite site, retailer or accessory does not get a vote so get voting and make a difference.

The fair weather players are out in full force, GBB rifles and for that matter pistols are working and it's time for the Ai Summer time special. Now here's the thing? If you subscribed from Vol 5 issue 1 you will receive this 13th issue completely FREE OF CHARGE, Don't worry if you didn't and your subscription is not yet up for renewal, because when you do re-subscribe you will also receive this issue FREE. //Ai500 USA has a green light// Airsoft International is not a games organiser, but a media partner and we believe that we should give something back to our fans and the community and that's why we work with the best in the business to bring you the AI 500 both here in the UK and in the US. Our partners in the US (Roundhouse Productions) have done it again and come up with an amazing venue. The site is located in Marina, CA (An hour's drive from San Francisco) Fort Ord, once the home of the US army's 7th Infantry Division is comprised of some 48 buildings with a little over half of them being 2 stories tall. The site was established in 1917 as a manoeuvre area and field artillery target range and was closed in September 1994. Once home to over 50,000 soldiers much of the old military buildings and infrastructure remains abandoned, but many structures have been torn down for development. In its hey-day, Fort Ord covered over 28,600 acres. The game will be held on the weekend of the 15th November 2009, players can expect to pay around $90.00 for what is shaping up to be one hell of a kick ass event. As usual with all Ai events players can expect heaps of free kit, training (this year by members of the Parachute Regiment and Royal Marines) and game play second to none. More information can be found at http://www.cqbchallenge.com http://www.ai-500.com UK players wishing to book up for this event can call the office for more information See you on the skirmish field Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

July 2009

Ai500 is a coming Over the past few months we have been scouring the UK countryside trying to find a suitable venue to run the UK side of the Ai500 and things are looking very promising indeed, we've found a virgin venue that quite frankly is amazing. I can't disclose the location at the moment as contracts need to be finalised, however what I can tell you is that we have appointed a partner to work with and the plan is to have two trial day games in August and September and the Ai500 weekender in October. I Can't express enough how unique this facility actually is and I can assure that you would have never played or experienced what we have lined up for you ever before. As with the Ai500 in the US (last year) each and every player will receive a goodie bag to the value (if not more) of the events price tag, which at present looks like it's going to be around the £95.00 mark. Corporate sponsors are already lining up for the event and I'm delighted to announce that our good friends at Viper will be diving in along with JT tactical (thus far). Their will also be the availability for a select amount of retailers to attend the Ai500 along with a number of VIP guests. Keep an eye out in future issues of Ai for more information and how you can book into what will surely be the premier airsoft experience in the UK and for that matter the rest of the world. Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

On our Radar

Hello and welcome to the start of Volume 5 of your favourite airsoft magazine. Its shaping up not only to be an exciting year for Airsoft in general, but also an exciting year for you (our readers). By the time your reading this the first of the Tour of Duty games would have come and gone. I personally really do have to thank the guys at Airsoft World and in particular Frenchie for pulling out all the stops on this series of games and making them what is shaping up to be a must attend series of events. Also a big thanks and name check goes out to the series of sponsors, Revision, Enola Gaye, Viper and Soldier of Fortune. The next game is at First and Only Airsoft on the 27th and 28th of June. Also this year Ai is supporting the very first UK Airsoft Expo (see news section for details). From where I'm sitting this event has all the building blocks to make it a germinate date in the Airsoft Diary. We wish James and the event organisers at Full moon-Armouries every success and urge you guys to get along and support James as you have done with so many of our co-branded events. Talking about events and yes I know, we're a bit late with the promo for the Ai500 USA this year, it's not a case of we are not running it this year, we're simply tying everything up for what should be a kick ass event, with quite a few surprises thrown in for you our readers. Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

Let me Out As time goes by my role in Ai has kept me pretty much office bound and concentrating on the commercial aspect of what is without a shadow of a doubt the western worlds biggest selling Airsoft Publication. My passion for the sport and the magazine sometimes gets clouded and I find myself forgetting that I'm a player. I find myself playing less and less these days as invariably when I turn up to a site you guys want to talk to me and that's important because without you guys there would not be an Ai. Playing less is not so much of a problem and it's a sacrifice that I'm willing to make, to ensure that once a month (in fact 13 times this year) you guys receive a high quality publication. As this issue goes off to press we here at Ai are at another milestone as with the next issue we slip quietly into volume 5 of Ai, which means that no other publisher in the western world can claim that they outsell or for that matter out circulate the best selling Airsoft publication in existence (in the western world) there has been a number of pretenders to the throne over the years, with I hasten to add quite ridiculous circulation claims and even stranger claims such as the magazine that rather oddly celebrated the fact that they carry no advertising. Unfortunately publishing is a commercial entreaty, with a huge cost attached to it. Our advertising in Ai allows us to reinvest into our circulation, but more importantly provides a service to our advertisers and readers. Fortunately (for Ai) a healthy advertiser base is indicative of a successful publication and that's one thing Ai certainly is.

Credit Crunch Everyone's seen the news, read the book and got the t-shirt. It seems that we as a country are officially in a recession, but luckily it must have overlooked our hobby as retailers are reporting a busy time and skirmish sites seem to be packed to capacity and then some. However having said that we are reacting to a number of reader's requests and have launched yet another new section Battlefield Bargains, it's simply that, we've sent our staff out with a budget to find low cost gear, with quite frankly some amazing results. The second hand market is positively bouldering with goodies, plus retailers have some great deals on at the moment. In the next few months we'll also be launching a free classified section to readers, where they will have the ability to buy and sell all of that unwanted tactical gear and accessories (No RIF's or pyros) so start clearing out your gear cupboards and start making money with your favourite Airsoft Magazine. Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

Shot show-tastic

For us as a publisher it's important not only to provide our readers with a quality publication that they want to read, but also to bridge the divide between the real world manufactures we all love and the Airsoft World. I have to report that this years Shot Show was buzzing with Ai being readily accepted by a whole heap of real world manufactures that this time last year would have had problems with us and been asked to move on. This new approach by manufactures means that Ai can bring you reviews and reports on real world gear with the backing of the manufacturing companies, which can only be a good thing for you guys as many of them are finally realising that Airsoft is a viable industry with lots of cash to spend. But having said that long gone are the days of cheap tactical gear from the US, so now's the time to shop at home for that all important tactical gear and maybe even look at home grown products for those all important deals. Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

It's not what you wear but what you know. With what seems to be a whole level of new players getting into Airsoft, one of the questions we get asked the most is what kit to wear and what team to join? The answer to this question is pretty simple. You wear what you like and don't worry about a team and its structure, simply go and play, enjoy it for what it is. Airsoft has never been about the size of your wallet, nor for that matter how big the team is you belong to? If there are a bunch of you that meet up to play, don't worry about uniformity and team command structures or for that matter communication, just simply get out and play, gel as a group of friends, get to know each other's playing habits, the more you play together the more you'll understand about each other. It takes months of practice to become a well organised team operator, it's all about reputation, don't worry about shooters and or firepower, it's all about how you and your team mates are going to react to a certain situation and instinctively knowing how you and your buddies are going to solve the problem. Do you bug out, push forward, and how do you do that, who goes loud (fires), who throws smoke, do you pepper pot forward or do you lay down suppressing fires and fall back. It's all about practice and understanding. To help all of you new players out there we will in the coming months try and help you out with a series of articles aimed at the novice team players, but until then here's a thought. If your team uses low, mid and or hi cap mags don't all have the same amount of BB's in them as you'll find yourself group loading at the same time and for that split second you'll find yourself completely defenceless. Remember it only takes a second to score a hit.

VCRA in full effect We all know what the VCRA is and what it means to us as a community here in the UK. If you don't, where have you been hiding? As of October 2007 the laws regarding airsoft guns changed. If you are under 18 years of age, it will be illegal for you to buy an airsoft gun (pistol rifle or grenade launcher), this does not affect parts, accessories, shells, ammo or gas. It will also be illegal for anyone to sell a gun to you, whether you are a skirmisher or not. Many people feel that there is a loop hole in the law which allows unregistered players to import their hardware from abroad. Well we're here to tell you that that's not going to work, unless you can provide a defence for legitimate use. Not even Ai gets away with it anymore; recently we had a rather large shipment of review samples seized by UK customs, which won't be realised until we can provide a written defence, so please people think twice before ordering from overseas (unless you have a defence) otherwise you may as well throw your hard earned cash down the drain.

Its CHRISTMAS.... Hello Guys and welcome to the Christmas issue of Ai. This time of year is special for a whole heap of reasons, its Christmas what more can I say, but let's all spare a thought for the less fortunate.

I have to make an apology this issue we have had to drop French letter this month and also bump the second part of the Battlefield Rations to another issue, but I think you're going to like what we've replaced them with, (I know we did)! CJ and I had a hoofing time with members of the Royal Marines as we went up against and fought alongside them (in CJ's case) at Scotland's premier Airsoft site The Forte.
