Saying goodbye to an old friend

It's with a heavy heart that I am informing you that it's time to say good bye to Airsoft Warehouse. Stewart and his team have been staunch supporters of Ai from the outset and have in my opinion left a gaping hole in the UK's South West Airsoft scene and will be missed by all that know them. We here at AI wish them all the luck wherever the future takes them. So is this the start of a decline in the UK Airsoft market? No you've got to be joking, here at Ai we've raised the bar yet again and are bringing you a bigger than ever issue packed with all the things you love and then some. We'd also like to welcome new friends to our industry in the shape of Lord of War and the X site shop.

On the cover Jason Veall and CJ shot on location in the welsh hills

I just don't get it! I would like to think that we all agree Airsoft is an honour game where players should show a certain level of gentlemanly conduct, a hit is a hit, call yourself out and walk back the safe zone. So when you're next out on the skirmish field, think about your actions. Cheating is like a virus, it's infectious; it can turn a good event very quickly into a bad experience. As players we need integrity and honesty to get the most out of this sport and without that we might as well all pack up and go home.

A big Thank you I think it's about time to give credit where credit is due. It's not me or the loyal bunch of contributors and staff that Ai has (although without them Ai would not be what it has become today) it's you guys our readers. Ai is still bucking the downwards trend in news trade sales. In fact since Ai launched over three years ago our circulation has constantly grown. Success itself brings its own problems. Take for instance the Wannabe special (Not that it was a problem) was the 13th issues in this year's publishing calendar, which meant that we had to find a 13th month in a 12 month calendar (which was no mean feat in itself) and now we've not just created a 13 month year, but what we had to do is nick a day from here and a day from there to give us a window to get this 13th issue on the streets. Initial reports suggest that the specials are here to stay so look out for some more Ai goodness around this time next year

Look at us now Welcome to the all new Airsoft International, we've gone and got our self a new designer and a new direction. Things have never looked better from Ai's point of view Subscriptions are flooding in, Back issue sales have gone ballistic and the news trade circulations is going through the roof This issue is a bit of an Ai500 special, the event certainly had some challenges for the event organisers, but at the end of the day it was a solid start to an event that will spread throughout the world as we unite players with one common goal (playing Airsoft) Talking about Special Issues, Don't forget to get your orders in for the Wannabe Special (Out end of July) This Special Issue does not form part of any Subscriptions, but we do have discounted prices for all of our subscribers.

Firing on all Cylinders Were not quite sure how we got to be on issue 32 of Ai I guess the old adage of time fly's when your having fun certainly springs to mind. To say that's its been an intense roller coaster of highs and lows somehow doesn't do our journey justice. It's easy to lose sight of our goals as Airsoft is our hobby and passion. As a team we certainly have some home grown talent onboard these days, which makes my job a whole lot easier. As players it's easy to lose sight of our hobby and concentrate on the commercial demands Ai throws at us. It's hard never ending work someone once used the analogy of "I guess it's like painting the Humber Bridge? Once you finish at one end, you have to go back and start all over again" I for one would have to agree, we're doing it now 13 times a year and you know what I would not have it any other way. We love what we do and are extremely proud of what we've achieved, but do you know what? It's important for each member of the Ai crew to remember where they came from (Airsoft Players).

Fighting Against Success As we move effortlessly into yet another volume of Ai, we as publishers are holding off (as best we can) a cover price hike. Ai has now been the same price since we launched. Paper and print charges have risen, but we've done our very best to keep the cover price static, but I'm afraid to report that Ai will increase in price at some point in volume 4. You may have also noticed that Ai is now perfect bound; it's not a cosmetic thing, but a production issue, because as our print order rises, therefore our sales through increases, it's more cost effective for us to do away with the old saddle stitched version.

Are you ready?

As the historic Ai500 draws closer I have to ask are you ready to become part of Airsoft History? Our event organisers are reporting a major influx of bookings through the event website www.ai-500.com don't leave it too long to reserve your place as I wouldn't want you to be disappointed. European players need not worry about exporting your RIF's or for that matter bringing them back into the country as we have had a number of practice runs to and from the US and I'm happy to report that its been plane sailing and Virgin Atlantic in particular have been extremely helpful checking our RIF's through customs at both ends. You can catch up with our transatlantic capers in the next issue of Ai (which will be just in time for the travelling UK players to digest and transport their RIF's in the correct manner).

Vegas Baby!!

As a first time attendee to the Shot Show, to say that I was impressed would be an understatement. The show was huge, real steal parts and tac gear were oozing out of every isle, for us it was a full onslaught and sometimes overwhelming experience of the very latest Shooting extravaganza. The Airsoft Manufacturers present were on the increase, this year G&G, ICS, Systema and the US based Echo 1 were there in full effect so too were Cyber Gun and the Crossman corporation along with our good friends at Spartan Imports leading the way in high end Airsoft wholesale, plus a whole heap of smaller manufactures, which has gotta be good for our industry

Turn to page 59 and make your mark.

Seeing through rose tinted specs? I don't think so!

Almost three years on and our guiding principles haven't changed - unbiased news and reviews are still our number one priority to you the reader

I've got to start this issue off with a bit of an apology, we were scheduled to bring you a report from one of the big games here in the UK, but because of a camera failure, and the fear that the report would have been less than favourable, the site operator who originally agreed to supply the photography backtracked and refused to do so.

The future's bright, the future's ours

There's a lot of buzz around the UK airsoft industry these days. And with new retailers and sites popping up all over the place, the once feared VCR Act seems to be having a positive effect on the market.

It seems almost as if airsoft has become a forbidden fruit. A whopping 45 sites have joined UKARA and over 6000 registration forms have been downloaded from their site. In addition the Ai office has had over 5000 or so requests for the player registration form. The Ai crew are certainly becoming more active in Europe and the US this year, we'll be attending a lot more sites and events and this is where you guys can help us out - if you have an event you want us to attend, or a game on, then drop us an email and we'll make sure Ai's there.
